How much should you spend on a STEM kit?
What $25, $30 and $40 a month actually buy, and the cost-per-build maths that headline prices hide.
Monthly prices in this category cluster tightly - roughly $24 to $40 - which makes headline price a poor way to choose. The number that separates them is cost per build, and on that measure the range is much wider than the price list suggests.
Cost per build, not cost per month
A monthly box at $30 delivers one project, so roughly $30 a build. A weekly cadence at a similar monthly price delivers about four, so nearer $8. That is the real spread, and it is a factor of three or four rather than the 20% you see on the pricing pages.
